Designing with Beads
There's more to making jewelry than just putting together a bunch of beads. There are aspects: format, style, tone and the principles of jewelry design for necklaces, bracelets and earrings that help you create the perfect accessories. This class for beginners and experienced beaders will give you a new perspective in creating and designing jewelry with all kinds of beads including seed beads. Class hands-on designing will bring the principles and aspects to practical application and conclusions. Basic Quilting: Fiber
A six week (meeting every other week) basic quilting course to include: preparation for quilting, making templates, piecing, applique, chain sewing, curves, setting the quilt, sashing, hand quilting, edgings, continuous bias, mitered corners, strip/string piecing, cathedral window, foundation piecing and finishing techniques. You'll have a choice of the project you want to make that will include many of the techniques demonstrated. Request class outline. Polymer Clay, Day 1 and 2
This class will cover the basics of polymer clay (day 1) and textures and transfers (day 2). Registering for the two days will be a savings in fees. Color Awareness Class
Investigate the characteristics of color families and become aware of making conscious color choices. You'll learn about the traditional color wheel and study a new color theory that may open your eyes to color in a vibrant and exciting way. Overriding principle that 1/2 plus 1/2 is not halfway will be discussed. Exercises with a variety of media and seed beads will give you concrete experiences in learning to make more informed and powerful color choices. Free Lace Thread Play Scarf: Fiber
Make a lacy Fiber scarf with yarns, threads, ribbons, strips and bits of fabric. Sew your fibers together with a simple "thread-play" between 2 layers of water soluble stabilizer, rinse, embellish with beads, and a fabulous art to wear scarf remains! Origami Earrings: Paper Folding
It is easy and fun to make 'beads' using the Japanese art of paper folding. In this class you'll learn techniques for folding leaves and fish that are the perfect size for earrings. You will also learn finishing techniques, including how to treat the paper 'beads' to make them durable and how to use the folded shapes with glass beads, wire and findings. You'll love these lightweight earrings for summertime. Finishing Techniques
Finishing projects can be challenging. After you put all that time and effort into making a piece, you want to make sure that the finishing method is neat and fits seamlessly. So many things to consider! How to finish the ends? What type of finish will work best with my piece? What options do I have? Should I use a metal clasp, a button or a bead? What works on a flat piece, or a tubular piece? How do I determine how long a bracelet or necklace should be? And, how do I hid those threads? In this class, we will review a variety of methods for finishing seed beaded projects. We'll discuss the challenges of clasping flat pieces vs. tubular pieces. And we'll discuss a variety of edgings. Feel free to bring pieces you have that you are ready to finish. We will review as many as possible and suggest appropriate finishing techniques. Getting Started with Beading
This class was designed for anyone who wants the scoop about how to get started stringing beads (2 methods) and constructing basic earrings. Covering the basic techniques, we'll string a necklace or bracelet with nylon thread and bead tips, string a necklace with beading wire and crimps, and make a pair of earrings with headpins and a basic loop. Getting Started with Bead Weaving
In this class we'll review the basic supplies and tools used in beadweaving techniques. We'll look at thread choices, needles, and work place accessories such as lighting and bead mats, and we'll review the wide variety of beads that can be used for beadweaving. Then you'll have an opportunity to select beads to create your first bracelet. (We will use an off-loom technique for this class. A loom weaving project is offered as a separate class.) As you work on your bracelet, we'll discuss tips for working comfortably...anxiety-free needle threading, how to pick up the beads with your needle, how to hold the piece while you work on it, how to add thread, etc. Instructor: Deb Fairchild Level: Beginner Price: FREE Provided Supplies: Lesson and beading instructions. Byzantine Bracelet: Chain Maille
This is another standard chain maille technique. Use jump rings to create a series of "knots" to form a decorative and elegant bracelet. You'll be surprised by how quickly this chain builds. Odd Count Cubes: Peyote
In this technique class you'll learn how to work the popular peyote stitch on an odd number of beads. The 4mm cube beads we use for this bracelet will snap right into place and make it easy to see the structure of the peyote piece. Spiral Rope Chain: Off Loom Weaving
This spiral rope has a multiple of looks depending on your bead choice and bead sequence. Beaded Crochet Necklace: Wire
These easy beaded crochet necklaces (two styles) using 28 gauge wire with beads are a great gift and quick to make. Light and airy, they are a perfect addition to a wardrobe. Included in the class will be finishing techniques. You should be able to finish your necklace in 2 hours. (If you have taken the Wire Knitting Class, this is a great necklace to make, as you can use up your wire left from the wire knitting necklace!) African Helix
The African Helix is yet another of the beautiful spiral beadweaving techniques. The helix stitch produces lovely raised spines which frame the individual panels that spiral gracefully around your piece.
