Getting Started with Bead Weaving
In this class we'll review the basic supplies and tools used in beadweaving techniques. We'll look at thread choices, needles, and work place accessories such as lighting and bead mats, and we'll review the wide variety of beads that can be used for beadweaving. Then you'll have an opportunity to select beads to create your first bracelet. (We will use an off-loom technique for this class. A loom weaving project is offered as a separate class.) As you work on your bracelet, we'll discuss tips for working comfortably...anxiety-free needle threading, how to pick up the beads with your needle, how to hold the piece while you work on it, how to add thread, etc. Please note: this class is intended for older teens and adults. Prospective students under 16 must contact instructor for prior approval.

This bracelet is an easy introduction to Herringbone Stitch (also called Ndebele because of its origins in South Africa). Herringbone is a versatile stitch that can be worked either flat or in the round and works up quickly because two beads are added with each stitch. You can make your bracelet with or without the edge stitch. In this design they have been used as an alternative method to reverse direction, but you will also learn the traditional method.

Odd Count Diamonds: Peyote
If you ever wanted to use peyote stitch to produce a piece with a centered pattern and evenly tapered ends, odd count peyote is the answer. A special "turn" is required at the end of alternate rows but it's worth the extra effort for the results that can be obtained with the odd number of beads. This simple diamond pattern has an ethnic feel which will vary depending up on the color and finish of your chosen beads.

This class introduces the basics of working with wire. You'll learn about the properties of wire and have an opportunities to work with basic wire working tools including cutters, pliers, hammers and anvil. Learn how to form perfect simple loops, wrapped loops, spiral bead cages, and simple links to make a bracelet.

Wire Knitting on a Spool: Wire
Remember as a child when you created long yarn cords with a wooden spool with nails on the top? Well it is not much different to create intriguing and stunning necklaces with wire.. This easy and quick technique using a spool and wire has all kinds of possibilities......fill with small beads, twist with other beads, incorporate focus beads and twist up for unique pieces. Beaded Crochet Necklace: Wire
These easy beaded crochet necklaces (two styles) using 28 gauge wire with beads are a great gift and quick to make. Light and airy, they are a perfect addition to a wardrobe. Included in the class will be finishing techniques. You should be able to finish your necklace in 2 hours. (If you have taken the Wire Knitting Class, this is a great necklace to make, as you can use up your wire left from the wire knitting necklace!)

For those interested in learning how to wrap pendants that are not drilled. You will leave class with a finished, wearable pendant. You'll have a choice between 2 wrapping (woven bail or continuous wrap) techniques. Recommended that you start with craft wire, learn the technique and then upgrade to SS wire if desired.

The double rope is similar to the twisted chain (or single rope). This version works up into a bold, double-linked chain. Use smaller rings for a delicate effect. Larger rings make this a good alternative for a bracelet for your favorite guy! This is a wonderful beginner project.

Designing with Beads
There's more to making jewelry than just putting together a bunch of beads. And somehow we all know that instinctively. This class is designed to give you some vocabulary to understand what you know intuitively.....to introduce design elements, the basic building blocks of all artistic media. What are these design elements? How are they used? How do they apply to beading? How can I use them to make my jewelry more interesting? Hands-on exercises in class will help you focus on practical application. This class, for beginners as well as experienced beaders, will give you a new perspective in creating and designing jewelry with all kinds of beads including seed beads.

Zentangle: Where art and meditation meet! Make beautiful images using repetitive patterns with pen on paper. Learn this technique in one evening and enjoy the calming benefits every time you create one of these 3 1/2" square artistic gems.
