| Discovering the Possibilities: Ring Toss! |
This is the premiere event in our new 2nd Friday feature, "Discovering the Possibilities". This 3-session series will explore three different methods for covering armatures (or supporting components, in this case, curtain rings) to make beaded circles and rings. Oh the possibilities!!! Connect these rings to make a unique bracelet, dangle them to make a funky pair of earrings or a window hanging, use them to make a toggle for your favorite tote or maybe an unusual scarf ring, or maybe just create a fun-loving set of napkin rings. Each project is designed to expand your understanding of the technique as we consider the possibilities afforded by knowing how to increase in pattern to form shapes. Participants must commit to all 3 sessions. Prerequisite: Must have off-loom bead experience. There is no specific technique requirement
Instructor: Deb Fairchild, Bead Artist, Instructor and Juried Member, League of NH Craftsmen Level: Intermediate Price: $90 Provided Supplies: Instruction Bring: Size 11 seed beads, 3 or 4mm center-drilled beads, e.g. pearls, glass, or crystals (you will only need a few for each circle/ring,choose a theme or mix it up!), 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 inch diameter rings(plastic, wood, or metal), beading thread of choice and size 11 beading needle

| Intermediate > Techniques with Seed Beads > African Techniques |
| African Helix: Off Loom Weaving |
The African Helix is yet another of the beautiful spiral beadweaving techniques. The helix stitch produces lovely raised spines which frame the individual panels that spiral gracefully around your piece. You'll learn how to create this unusual effect by looping the thread around the thread (rather than by passing it through beads as with peyote, herringbone, and right angle weave). A change of pace, and a lot of fun!
Instructor: Deb Fairchild, Bead Artist, Instructor and Juried Member, League of NH Craftsmen Level: Intermediate Price: $30 Provided Supplies: Directions, mandrel to support your work Bring: 4 colors of size 8 seed beads, thread of choice(such as Nymo, Fireline, Power Pro, etc), Size 10 beading needle, 12mm bead for clasp. | Finishing Techniques: Misc |
Finishing projects can be challenging. After you put all that time and effort into making a piece, you want to make sure that the finishing method is neat and fits seamlessly. So many things to consider! How to finish the ends? What type of finish will work best with my piece? What options do I have? Should I use a metal clasp, a button or a bead? What works on a flat piece, or a tubular piece? How do I determine how long a bracelet or necklace should be? And, how do I hide those threads?
In this class, we will review a variety of methods for finishing seed beaded projects. We'll discuss the challenges of clasping flat pieces vs. tubular pieces. And we'll discuss a variety of edgings. Feel free to bring pieces you have that you are ready to finish. We will review as many as possible and suggest appropriate finishing techniques.
