The Master Beader Program (MBP) is an innovative and adaptable beading instruction program structured
around three increasingly skilled levels:
The Apprentice level will teach the new beader those fundamental skills needed regardless of what
type of beading you pursue. You will learn the basics of stringing, knotting, how to use findings, how to choose
materials, as well as the basics of color and design. You will also have an opportunity to explore various beading
and bead-related techniques. Try your hand at peyote, herringbone (Ndebele), right angle weave, loom weaving,
bead netting, chain maille, or any other technique that appeals to you. This level is designed to kindle your
passion for beading!
As a Journeyman you will develop expertise in the techniques you learned as an Apprentice by
experimenting with technique variations and working on increasingly complex projects. You will also be encouraged
to explore some new technique or experiment with another bead-related medium such as wirework, polymer clay, precious
metal clay, or felting.
At the Master level you will demonstrate your mastery of the craft. You will also select advanced
experiences from a variety of choices such as:
- Designing and teaching your own class
- Research into the beading style of some historic period that you find intriguing
- Designing and creating a piece for juried review
- Writing an article to submit for publication in a print or online forum
As a participant you will get...
- A detailed program guide
- Progress logs
- Expert mentoring
- Help locating beading resources and instruction
- Regular MBP get-togethers
- A Master Beader Program Journal to record your journey
